The research activity focuses on the interplay among multimedia and forensic analysis. The main aim of such strategies is revealing the traces ("footprints") left by the acquisition and editing operations on images/videos. By collecting and reordering these footprints, it is possible to reconstruct the history of a given multimedia content.

The investigation has focused on fake detection, image/video authentication, acquiring device identification, image/video phylogeny, patent violation detection. Additional research work has been done on antiforensic strategies, i.e., malicious techniques to alter the multimedia data in order to hide the footprints and prevent a correct forensic analysis.
Most of the research work has been done within the FP7 EU project REWIND.

Potential applications include the usage in the court of law for authentication of multimedia contents, fraud detection, prooving ownership of given content or patent, identify the origin of a given multimedia data.
